The Indirect Tax Analyst II will manage various aspects of indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, real and personal property tax, and business licenses. International Tax Planning Director, Houston, Texas

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for international tax planning relating to tax matters associated with companies projects.
  • Responsible for special tax projects and other tax research and planning as it relates to mergers and acquisitions, greenfield development projects, establishment of new representative offices in foreign jurisdictions, identification of new, country-specific tax initiatives, and other strategic analysis and planning as required.
  • Responsible for the review and filing of tax returns for the holding and service companies.
  • Responsible for the analysis of current and proposed laws as they could potentially impact new and current businesses.
  • Responsible for the successful defense of positions and strategies from tax auditors in the jurisdictions in which Company affiliates operate.
  • Responsible for proactively generating new ideas and supporting due diligence and business development teams; working as member of multi-disciplinary teams on project development and implementation.
  • Responsible for assisting tax team with FAS 109 reporting, transfer pricing, or other departmental projects and initiatives, as needed.
  • Responsible for engaging and directing local country tax advisers as needed.
Essential Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 8-12 years of international tax experience in major aspects of U.S. international and foreign country corporate tax planning (preferably related to large capital investment projects), including legal entity and contract structuring.  CPA required.
  • Good organizational skills; ability to prioritize workload.
  • Strong analytical and technical tax skills and ability to understand tax law.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • International travel, as required.
Preferred Skills and Education

  • JD or MBA
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Mandarin Chinese a plus.

Senior International Tax Accountant – Houston, Texas

Overview:

Tax Accounting is responsible for  income tax provisions and accounts. The analyst will support U.S and foreign effective tax rate calculations and analyze differences between forecast and actual provisions. The analyst will also participate in the Tax Department’s maintenance of tax basis balance sheets. 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in the preparation of segment-level and overall corporate effective tax rate calculations. Provide support analysis for period-to-period tax rate variations.
  • Calculate and record monthly foreign and U.S. income tax provisions for assigned entities. Ensure accurate return to accrual adjustments for differences between booked provisions and filed tax returns.
  • Support the preparation of U.S. tax basis balance sheets. Interface with tax compliance and accounting personnel to ensure accurate measurements of book and tax bases. Perform tax basis balance sheet training and review functions. Consolidate entity level deferred tax calculations.
  • Prepare and review foreign tax basis balance sheets. Analyze the U.S. tax impacts of foreign deferred taxes.
  • Participate in the implementation of a tax provision software package (CorpTax AGP). 6. Ensure income tax provisions and accounts are compliant with FAS 109 and Sarbanes-Oxley. Provide supporting documentation and interact with internal and public auditors.
  • Provide back-up support for other tax accounting analysts.
  • Participate in Tax Department special projects and assignments.

 

 Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience with public accounting or Oil and Gas preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of tax accounting experience
  • Prefer International tax accounting experience

Junior Tax Attorney – Houston, Texas

 Overview:

Position involves the analysis of tax issues associated with corporate acquisitions, dispositions, and other initiatives. Individual will be trained in various areas of tax such as the foreign tax credit, US taxation of international activities, partnership taxation, transaction taxes, etc.

Responsibilities:

Work as a member of a team with various other organizations. Work on issues related to structuring transactions and analyzing tax regimes in the context of a planned business transaction. Work with others in the Tax Organization on other matters such as tax appeals and tax legislation.

Qualifications:

Degree: JD Required Major Discipline: Accounting, Finance Years Experience

Required: The ideal candidate will have exposure to acquisition and divestiture activities and 2 to 4 years of tax experience along with a commitment to develop in the tax area.

Computer Proficiencies: Must have the ability to perform basic spreadsheet applications.

Job Description: ¡ Duties of the Manager of Tax Planning and Strategic Projects: ¡ Tax research, analysis and planning to minimize tax liabilities and to identify tax saving opportunities. ¡ Manage tax planning projects to achieve targeted goals. ¡ Evaluate impact of proposed transactions, including the management of modeling. ¡ Evaluate potential impact of tax law changes. Manage and prepare responses to complex inquiries from taxing authorities.

Required: ¡ MUST 7+ years tax experience within banking and /or financial services. ¡ Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance. ¡ MS/MBA Taxation required or working towards ¡ CPA required ¡ Expert knowledge of federal and state tax laws. ¡ Knowledge of Tax Research databases such as CCH and RIA.
