BASIC FUNCTION: Assist with the development and implementation of expatriate taxation policy worldwide. Liaise with field offices to review, participate and advise on employee tax policies, processes and issues as related to the Expatriate population. Manage field employee tax policy questions on a case by case basis. Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a set of metrics for this function

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for international tax planning relating to tax matters associated with companies projects.

  • Responsible for proactively generating new ideas and supporting due diligence and business development teams; working as member of multi-disciplinary teams on project development and implementation.
  • Responsible for assisting tax team with FAS 109 reporting, transfer pricing, or other departmental projects and initiatives, as needed.
  • Responsible for engaging and directing local country tax advisers as needed.
Essential Job Requirements

  • A minimum of 8-12 years of international tax experience in major aspects of U.S. international and foreign country corporate tax planning (preferably related to large capital investment projects), including legal entity and contract structuring.  CPA required.
  • Good organizational skills; ability to prioritize workload.
  • Strong analytical and technical tax skills and ability to understand tax law.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • International travel, as required.
Preferred Skills and Education

  • JD or MBA
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Mandarin Chinese a plus.

 

Special Job Characteristics

  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to understand general accounting systems and to analyze specific entries and related financial reports and their correlation to income tax reporting requirements.
  • Ability to identify problems, recommend alternative solutions, and offer tax planning ideas.
  • Ability to design and organize work papers for the accumulation, presentation and review of tax return information, and the preparation of tax returns.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with tax and accounting personnel.
  • Ability to work as a member of the tax team and demonstrate flexibility to support the team, as needed.

Tax Accountant – Oil & Gas, Houston, Texas

Must be able to independently prepare complex Excel spreadsheets, analyze source documents for book/tax differences, compute tax depletion and depreciation, maintain tax calendars, and maintain schedules of tangible property. Responsible for quarterly state and federal tax estimates. Prepare tax returns for state and federal partnerships, trusts, individual, and S corporation. Must possess a general knowledge of federal and state income, information, and sales and use tax.

BBA in accounting or comparable degree required, with some tax courses preferred. Prefer 5 years work experience in tax accounting, or 3 years with a Big Four firm. Oil & gas tax experience a plus. Should be able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing. CPA candidate preferred.
