Overview of the Staff Accountant:

  • Perform analytical functions necessary to execute and review the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process including preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Maintain oversight of accounting personnel across subsidiaries to ensure timely consolidation and reporting.
  • Participate in the rollout of FP&A program, including the development of initial budgets and budget to actual analysis for subsidiaries.
  • Perform analysis of income statement, balance sheet, and equity transactions, preparation of consolidated financial statements, and general accounting support for projects.
  • Prepare vendor and customer invoices, disbursements, payroll and time reporting, field tickets, and other daily transactions for the parent company / consolidated shared services. Review daily transactions for the subsidiaries as necessary.
  • Assist with the preparation of interim and annual financial statement audits
  • Identify and research technical accounting and reporting matters, accounting principles, and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with and respond to ad hoc requests from key stakeholders within the organization.
  • Prepare the monthly and quarterly consolidation/elimination entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of the consolidated financial statements.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual disclosures and maintain tie-out binder.

Qualifications of the Staff Accountant:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC reporting, and business combinations.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and carry out responsibilities with a sense of urgency.

Can you believe that there are only 7 days left until the END of Q1? Where has the time gone?

Time flies when you’re the busiest you’ve ever been and that’s an understatement. The Houston job market is hotter than a blistering August heat wave. I’ve never seen anything like this in the 20+ years that I’ve been in recruiting. Every industry seems to be hiring, even Oil & Gas! Renewables is the newest sector in Houston that has also started to add jobs. With all that said, it’s taking longer to find talent, many companies are taking advantage of interim support or temporary help to keep up with the day-to-day workload. Overview of the Senior International Accountant role:

  • Revenue recognition: Ensure the timely recognition of the different revenue components and related items such as prepayments, deferred income for charter fees, and rebilling of other expenses under the charter agreements such as crewing costs etc.

  • Reconciliation USGAAP & IFRS: Assistance with the reconciliation of account balances of foreign subsidiaries between IFRS and USGAAP.
  • SOX: Assist with the implementation, compliance, and maintenance of Sarbanes Oxley requirements around revenue. Maintain and update the revenue Risk and Control Matrix. Participate in revenue walkthrough meetings with internal and external auditors; create and maintain process flow diagrams and narratives.
