Corporate Financial Planning & Analyst

The position will work with key business partners across the organization as well as with regional finance teams to standardize reporting, develop new KPIs and create more meaningful and timely reports that will enable rapid decision-making at all levels of the organization. This position will report to the Corporate FP&A Manager.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for financial analysis, forecasting methods, and building processes. They should also be able to work independently, anticipate and react to frequently changing business conditions with proven ability to perform under tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities:

– Collecting, analyzing and reviewing quantitative data and creating meaningful reports to drive business improvement and cost reductions

– Working with business partners on spend optimization and strategic planning across two business units and multiple cost-centers

– Supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of systems to support the team

– Provide monthly and quarterly operating expense summary and highlights for cost centers

– Preparation of executive and board-level presentations

– Participate in the quarterly rolling forecast processes

– Produce ad-hoc reports and analysis as necessary

Basic Qualifications

– Bachelors’ degree in finance, accounting or an analytical field

– Four plus years of relevant experience that demonstrates a knowledge of corporate forecasting processes and financial analysis capabilities

– Strong analytic, financial modeling and reporting skills

– Passion for continuous improvement opportunities

– Excellent attention to detail; highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

– Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

– Experience with a Corporate Performance Management system (Hyperion HFM, Essbase, Cognos, BW/BI, etc.)

– Big 4 experience

– Familiarity with statistical analysis

– Familiarity with predictive analysis

– Familiarity with M&A modeling

• Key Responsibilities:
  • Record weekly, monthly and quarterly transactions related to public securities including dividend income, interest, gain/loss, foreign tax withholding and management fees
  • Perform monthly custodial and bank reconciliations
  • Record monthly oil and gas joint interest bills, revenue checks, and calculate related depreciation, depletion and amortization.
  • Perform monthly close duties included but not limited to:
    • Reconciliation of cost, FMV, income, gain and foreign taxes
    • Maintain accrued interest schedule for bonds
    • Post FMV adjustments to the general ledger
    • Import offline fund transactions and valuations
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly securities reports for Management Committee and Investment Committee
  • Attend weekly Securities meeting with CEO and Investment team (Associates, Analyst, Accountant)
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly Board reports for oil and gas, marketable securities and private investments
  • Prepare schedules and provide requests for external audit
  • Assist in the preparation of budgeting and forecasting schedules for annual budget
  • Maintain relations with custodians, request trades, and managing accounts
  • Responsible for accounting, audit and investor reporting of a main fund and several investment entities that it manages.  Duties included but not limited to:
    • Prepare and send quarterly management fee invoices and capital calls for new investments as needed
    • Maintain accounting records following GAAP
    • Coordinate annual external audits (includes preparation of financial statements and providing audit schedules and requests)
    • Prepare annual reports for investors (includes calculation of carried interests)
  • Special projects as assigned

   

  Requirements:

  • BBA – Accounting
  • 6 plus years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of public and private equity investments and oil and gas would be helpful
  • Proven track record as an effective team player and good interpersonal relationships
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Uncompromised reputation for discretion, honesty and personal integrity
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, and listening) skills
  • Proficient in Excel

Industry News and Updates – Q3 2018:

I can’t believe we are already half way through 2018. It has been a very busy year for CFS nationally and we continue to gain momentum locally as well. Keep in mind that Houston tends to lag a bit behind the national economy. According to the GHP, Houston has added 79,200 jobs in the past 12 months. Furthermore, growth has continued in a wide variety of sectors, but the largest spikes have been in Manufacturing and Construction. Employment services are also up over 20%. It is not uncommon to see a surge in use of temporary solutions when the economy turns. It is less risky and much quicker to bring in temporary talent. With that being said, we are also starting to see more and more hiring in the Exploration & Production industry and that is a great sign for Houston! I remain very optimistic about Houston and the job market for the remainder of the year and well into 2019!

The Accountant is a full-time position with primary duties including general ledger and investment accounting for a very large nonprofit.

General Ledger Accounting

• Maintain financial records for Foundation
• Post recurring and adjusting general ledger entries for monthly and year-end closing
• Reconcile accounts and post adjusting entries for all entities including inter-fund accounts
• Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements for the entities for Controller’s review
• Create and maintain financial reports as required
• Develop and maintain various spreadsheets for amortization of prepaid expenses, depreciation, grants payable, etc.
• Reconcile miscellaneous asset, liability, and other specific accounts monthly and as needed
• Reconcile inter-fund accounts for all entities and post adjusting entries as needed
• Assist with preparation of certain annual audit schedules and confirmations

Additional:

• Assist Controller in coordinating accounts receivable and HR department’s operations to improve efficiency and accuracy
• Support certain treasury functions, including ACH payments processing, positive paying checks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Manager Corporate Development

Responsible for financial modeling, research, and presentation support for corporate development, investor relations, treasury, and other initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Corporate development:

• • Drives key activities to analyze acquisition opportunities, including reviewing potential targets, developing financial models, producing valuation analyses (accretion/dilution, DCF), and coordinating due diligence.
  • Creates management and board presentations to present acquisition opportunities to key decision makers.

• Investor relations:

• • Creates and updates investor relations materials including presentations, analyst estimate summaries, benchmarking analyses, and shareholder reports.
  • Supports the quarterly earnings release and conference call process.
  • Assists with coordination of investor conference and non-deal roadshow attendance.

• Capital Markets:

• • Analyzes and prepares presentations for various treasury needs including presentations to rating agencies, bond investors, and company’s bank group.
  • Creates and maintains financial statement forecast model of company.
• Supports FP&A and Tax functions as needed.

Education, Training, Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a similar field.  MBA preferred. CFA or CPA designation a plus.
• 5-7 years of corporate finance, investment banking, corporate development, or private equity experience.
• Highly advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required; experience with Bloomberg a plus.

Metro Houston reached a milestone in May, with just over 3.1 million workers on
payrolls throughout the region. Since January ’10, the region has added more than
596,100 jobs, more than the current employment for the New Orleans (585,800 jobs) or
Hartford (580,200 jobs) metro areas.
For the 12 months ending May ’18, metro Houston created 79,200 jobs, for a 2.6 percent
increase. That reflects a slight dip from the 85,800 jobs created in the 12 months ending
April ’18. For the month of May, employers added 9,400 jobs, which falls below the nonrecession average of 14,000 jobs in a typical May.
Employment services, construction and manufacturing led job growth in the region over the past 12 months, the three sectors accounting for 45.6 percent of the jobs created.
Employment growth in health care remains weak, the sector adding only 1,000 jobs over
the past year. The same holds true for other services (i.e., personal care and repair)
adding only 200 jobs over the same period.

The surge in drilling activity has helped the blue collar side of the energy industry, with oilfield services, the sector adding 2,400 over the past year. Likewise, the manufacture of fabricated metal products, which includes pipes, valves and flanges, has added 3,500 jobs and oil field equipment 2,600 jobs. However, restructuring continues in energy’s white collar side, with oil and gas extraction cutting 1,500 jobs over the past 12 months.
Houston’s unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in May, unchanged from 4.2 percent in
April and down from 4.8 percent in May ’17. Texas unemployment rate was 3.7 percent
in May, down from 3.8 percent in April and 4.1 percent in May ’17. The U.S. rate was 3.8
percent in May, down from 3.9 percent in April and 4.1 percent in May ’17. The rates
are not seasonally adjusted.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of three years of experience in accounts payable and general accounting.
