Our client is growing and adding an Operations Controller to one of their largest branch locations. The company is publicly traded with well over 1 Billion dollars in sales and locations all over the world. The Operations Controller will be located in Pasadena, Texas and will supervise a team of 14. We are looking for a team player who loves to interact with operations and train/mentor a large team.

Summary

This role focuses on the financial aspects of an operating district serving as a liaison between operational management and corporate finance.  The position requires the understanding and ability to convey financial insight to local operational management to allow for informed business decisions.

Essential Job Functions

• Owns the district billing and collections process to ensure timeliness and accuracy to enhance cash collection cycle.
• Accountable for unbilled revenue performance and provide status reports to facilitate timely billing
• Reviews the recording of period-end accruals and deferrals to ensure consistency with GAAP and company policy
• Supervise other district processes related to accounts payable and payroll
• Supervise month-end financial reporting close process
• Prepares management reports including KPI’s and variance analysis with explanations
• Prepares trend analysis and suggests improvements to management when appropriate to align costs with revenue
• Maintain an effective local internal control environment and ensure district complies with applicable policies and procedures
• Responsible for effectively managing inventory levels and costs
• Ensure the accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments
• Analyze potential excess and obsolete inventory items on a quarterly basis
• Collaborates with operational management and the Division Business Analyst to develop annual budgets and track results to budget
• Assists Division Business Analyst in compiling and adjusting forecasts throughout the year
• Provides timely, accurate data and reports to management as requested to proactively influence sound business decisions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Five (5) to Seven (7) years’ of experience with a mix of public and industry experience preferred
• Extensive MS Excel experience (advanced functions like VLOOKUP and pivot tables)
• Proficient with other MS Office products
• Ability to rapidly summarize and communicate ideas and concepts
• Detail oriented with the ability to prioritize and think analytically
• Capacity to understand, analyze and summarize financial data in a clear concise manner to both financial and operational management

The duties of this role include:

• Preparing the notes and reports for the external financial statements.
• Prepares work schedules and other work papers
• Prepares reports for the external management reporting process, including financial and operational analysis.
• Assist with the coordination of the annual audits

Qualifications

• 1-4 years of financial reporting experience in public accounting and/or oil and gas
• Strong understanding of property and/or midstream reporting

Metro Houston created 110,200 jobs, a 3.7 percent increase, in the 12 months ending August ’18. That’s the strongest 12-month pace since January ’15 when the economy, though entering a downturn, had momentum from the four previous years of frenetic growth. The construction sector has added 28,900 jobs over the past 12 months, a 13.5 percent increase. That’s a record for construction job growth, even surpassing the years in which we built 18 million square feet of office space, 20,000 apartment units, and $60 billion in chemical plant construction was underway. Much of the growth is due to Hurricane Harvey repair efforts, and as Houston enters the second year of recovery the construction activity and jobs associated with it will wind down.

The region added 35,000 jobs in professional and business services, over the past 12 months, a 7.2% annual increase. That’s the third highest absolute increase but ranks in the upper quintile for percentage increase over the past 28 years. The sector grew faster at different times in the 90s, albeit on a smaller base.

Of the 35,000 prof/biz services jobs created, administrative and support services accounted for 20,400, a 9.8 percent annual increase. This sector includes janitorial services, security services, landscaping services, and contract employees. Among the subsectors, engineering added 2,600 jobs, a 4.0 percent increase. The growth in engineering reflects the on-going recovery in oil and gas. Today’s report showed oil and gas extraction still losing jobs and oilfield services adding jobs, leading to a net gain of 1,900 for the industry. Trade, transportation, and utilities added 17,300 jobs, a 2.8 percent increase. All subsectors, wholesale, retail, transportation, and utilities contributed to job growth for the sector.

Our client, a large E&P company located in Houston, Texas, has invited us to assist them on their search for a Project Cost Controller. This role is newly created and will play a big part in the future success of the client!

Here is what you could expect should become the next Project Cost Controller:

You will be working hand-in-hand with the Project Manager, the project team, and the management of the other E&P entities.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Controlling & monitoring project expenditures
• Informing critical stakeholders of actual, budget, forecasted project costs
• Leading the budgeting process, ensuring consistency with long-term plan and schedule
• Ensuring value of work done (VOWD) & monthly accruals is accurate and delivered on time and without any unexpected info
• Partnering with technical & operational management
• Managing internal controls, ensure SOX compliance

To be successful in this role, you must:

• Have a Bachelor’s in Accounting or MBA + CPA
• 10-15 years of E&P expense accounting experience
• Strong knowledge in O&G operations for drilling, construction, and production expenses
• High emotional intelligence and ability to work with engineers
• Knowledgeable of and history of compliance with SOX controls, documentation, reporting requirements
• SAP experience

About the Role:

The Staff Accountant provides immediate oversight for accounts payable, property accounts receivable, and secondary support for the property accounting software.  The Staff Accountant assists with month-end closings, regular account reconciliations, and financial statement reporting and preparation.  The Staff Accountant also plays an integral part in the Consolidated and audit processes, annual budgeting, and loan processing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews all invoices for appropriate documentation and approvals prior to payment by the Accounts Payable Clerk.
• Processes all construction draws.
• Records all contribution receivables, and performs monthly reconciliation between accounting software and fund development software.
• Assists in monthly closings and financial statement preparation.
• Posts Property Management bank deposits in Property Management software, and records all resident rent receipts.
• Prepares routine monthly journal entries.
• Performs general ledger account reconciliations as required.
• Reconciles all bank accounts monthly.
• Prepares mileage/expense reconciliations.
• Maintains CIP documentation and reconciliation.
• Prepares annual 1099 filings.
• Prepares invoicing for collaborative partners.
• Assists Corporate Finance and Property Management, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant accounting experience.
• High proficiency level with computer functions, financial database management reporting systems, accounts receivables, accounts payable and Microsoft Office.
• Attention to detail in written reports and financial documents.
• Experience with a real estate management and development company is valued.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 5+ years of financial accounting experience with large public accounting firm and/or corporate/industrial experience.
• Technical accounting (U.S. GAAP) proficiency
• SEC reporting experience and/or experience auditing publicly traded companies with thorough knowledge of SEC reporting processes
• Demonstrates (1) ability to work independently and to solve problems, (2) leadership, (3) ability to effectively communicate information (written and oral), (4) strong work ethic, (5) strong attention to detail, (6) good organization and project planning skills.
