Where do I start???? 2010 has been a very pleasant surprise. Honestly, I did not expect the market to shift so fast. We have had a tremendous amount of clients request Accountants on a permanent and temporary basis. Personally, as a Recruiter, I have had the best start I have every had in 9 years of recruiting!!!! Basically it boils down to companies starting to experience more demand and not having enough resources to get all the work done. Most accounting departments have been running very lean for the past 18 months or so. We are seeing positions at all levels from temporary AR/AR clerks, to Accounting Managers and Financial Analysts. The biggest demand to date has been in Tax (both public accounting and industry). I think we have finally put the worst of times behind us and can look forward to brighter days!

Local Statistics:

• National / Houston Unemployment Rate: 9.9% / 8.5%  (This is increasing, because workers who had given up their job search are returning to the market).
• Price of Oil / Natural Gas:  Between $80 and $85 (April last year it was $55) / $3.99
• Oil Rig Count: 1483

• Positions in demand: Tax Staff, Tax Senior, Tax Manager (Public & Industry), Controller & CFO (coming back), Internal Audit, Upstream Accounting Positions, Financial Analysts!!!
• Industries not hiring or flat: Construction, Homebuilding(Starting to see some improvement)
