Controller Responsibilities:

Controller Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
  • 10-12 years of experience; higher education exposure desirable.
  • Proficiency in Banner software and GAAP financial statements.
  • Expertise in consolidated statements and not-for-profit GAAP.
  • Understanding of market-to-market accounting for investments.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Overview of the Director of Finance role::

  1. Fund Admin Oversight:
    • Collaborate with the Fund Administrator Team for daily financial operations.
    • Review financial reports for accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulations.
    • Lead weekly meetings with the Fund Administrator team.
  2. SPV Management:
    • Facilitate SPV formation, tax ID registration, and bank account setup.
    • Manage investor commitment closings and onboarding.
    • Communicate closing procedures and capital call timelines to investors.
    • Ensure compliance in financial reporting for SPVs.
  3. Valuation & Financial Modeling:
    • Lead quarterly valuations of portfolio companies per company policy.
    • Prepare quarterly updates for the Limited Partner Valuation Committee.
    • Serve as a resource for the investment team in financial modeling and forecasting.
  4. Audit and Tax Oversight:
    • Oversee the audit and tax process with external teams.
    • Review annual audited financial statements and partnership tax returns.
    • Generate specialized tax schedules for the tax team.
  5. Investment Funding Oversight:
    • Review term sheets and funding documents.

Director of Finance Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP standards and regulations.
