Position Summary:

Overview of the Property Accountant role:

  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and applicable income statement accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare monthly bank statement reconciliations and promptly record any reconciling items.
  • Submit banking requests to the Treasury Manager for monthly mortgage payments, distributions, or account transfers.
  • Perform and review month-end close outs making sure tenant ledgers tie out to general ledger.
  • Review and maintain cash balances for assigned properties. Must submit funding requests as necessary and approve bill payments.
  • Ensure monthly mortgage payments are made and recorded properly.
  • Work with Property Managers and Supervisors to produce quality financial statements for owners.
  • Provide information to outside auditors as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Senior Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the growth and build out of the SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting function.
  • Advise on technical accounting considerations
  • Document conclusions on the appropriate accounting for complex transactions and contracts and adoption of new accounting standards.
  • Drive the preparation and filing of SEC filings.
  • Ensure that the company is in compliance with all financial policies, GAAP, and SEC-related reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent.
  • CPA is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in and working knowledge of GAAP, SEC Regulations, and SOX, including Big 4 public accounting experience.
  • 3+ years working at a commercial biotech/pharma company
  • Extensive knowledge of Stock-Based Compensation, Business Combinations, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Experience preparing and publishing 10-Q and 10-K filings, proxy statements, registration statements, etc.
  • Experience with international consolidation and multi-currency entities.

What will the Controller do?

  • Lead the efforts into the potential IPO/get the company IPO-ready!
  • Be a leader and supporter of the strong accounting team
  • Oversee month-end close process, and day-to-day accounting functions, including revenue recognition, billing, cost accounting, AP, AR, capital expenditures, etc.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting, company policy, and procedures
  • Prepare monthly financial statements
  • Oversee external audit coordination on financials and benefit plan audits
  • Develop, standardize and automate FP&A reports, metrics, and dashboards for monthly/quarterly management reporting
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation packages for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Work with team on strategic initiatives to improve productivity and utilization of ERP, drive efficiencies within the business to help achieve cost goals, and improve working capital performance
  • Assist with other special projects as requested by the senior leaders

What we need in a Controller:

The ideal Controller would have a minimum of 8+ years of accounting experience with a mix of Big4 Audit & Industry  (Ecommerce, SaaS, or high tech) with a CPA. The Controller will need to have maintained the books as if it were a public/SEC compliant company OR have experience helping a company become IPO-ready! The ideal Controller will also be high energy, personable, adaptive & creative *entrepreneurial spirit*, and have a passion for the mission of the company.

  • 8+ years of increasingly responsible accounting experience
  • 2 of the 8 years ideally would be as a Controller
  • Bachelors degree
  • CPA highly preferred
  • BIG 4 Accounting experience highly preferred
  • In-depth knowledge and practical understanding of the working of the financial statements with ability to analyze and improve upon inadequacies
  • Thorough knowledge & experience with gaap
  • Experience implementing software preferred
  • Experience with data analytics tools & streamlining a major plus
  • Experience in high-growth tech company, ecommerce or SaaS  (HIGHLY preferred)
  • PE or VC backed company experience a plus!
