Industry News: 

It has been exactly 3 months since my last newsletter update and has the world changed! Houston was hit hard not only by COVID, but the price of oil went negative! To say we have been on the craziest rollercoaster would be an understatement. I know a lot of you are wondering what is happening in our local job market, so let’s jump right in. I have connected with many of you in the past few months. The feedback I’ve received has been that most have had to endure pay cuts, a good amount were furloughed, and quite a bit were laid off. The pay cut was the most dominant response though. My gut tells me that we hit bottom in Houston around 3 weeks ago and we are starting to crawl our way out….slowly.

In Houston and nationally we are seeing a high demand for temporary hires. This is in line, with what usually happens in a recession. The direct hire roles that were put on hold are coming back slowly, so you have to work your network more than ever. One side note: I have placed several accounting and finance professionals during this time without face to face contact with the employer. Talk about making an adjustment! I love how business always find a way to hire!!!!
