VP Of Finance Overview

Primary responsibility for managing the day-to-day financial operations for the San Antonio market. Fiscal responsibility for preparing complete and accurate financial statements, quarterly forecasting, and hands-on involvement in land acquisition feasibility process. The VP of Finance can expect that every day will be different and will include value-add projects for other disciplines within the organization.

My client is a leader in the homebuilding industry and they are seeking a VP of Finance for the San Antonio division. This organization promotes from within and views finance as a key component to the success of the company. Many of the leaders in the organization have a background in Accounting/Finance and the trend will continue with the right individual placed in this role.

My client is seeking an agile business-minded individual with a solid business acumen. This is a collaborative role and a driver of business and results. It is imperative that this individual is an effective communicator and leader in order to have influence with key stakeholders. With a laid-back “family feel”, it is important that this individual fit into the culture by being open, honest, adaptable, and humble.  This leader should also be committed to mentoring and developing others.


  • Oversees preparation of monthly financial statements and responsible for compliance and adherence with GAAP and Company policies and procedures
  • Coordinates the annual plan, quarterly forecasts and periodic Flash submissions, including presentation of results to Area Leadership
  • Oversees the land acquisition feasibility process for new communities and the disposition activities for land sales
  • Works with internal and external audit staff
  • Partners with and provides counsel to homebuilding functional leaders in order to drive enhanced business results


  • Provides developmental opportunities through identification of internal and external training opportunities
  • Management of several direct and indirect reports
  • Creates opportunities for employee growth
  • Provides continuous coaching with regard to functional and leadership standards (technical skills and behaviors)


  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting (or equivalent in related field)
  • Certified Public Accounting license (active or inactive) strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years public accounting/expanded homebuilding experience
  • The ideal candidate has 5 years minimum experience in homebuilding
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls and financial reports
  • Ability to organize and manage long-term projects
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
