Project Cost Accountant — Key Responsibilities
- Track and monitor budget-to-actual spend across large-scale construction projects; analyze variances and provide forecasts
- Partner with Operations and project teams to understand cost drivers, progress, and financial risks
- Perform detailed cost analysis across labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and subcontractors
- Prepare project cost reports, dashboards, and variance analyses to support decision-making
- Establish and maintain project budgets, cost codes, and tracking within ERP (SAP/WBS preferred)
- Review and validate invoices, purchase orders, and change orders for accuracy and compliance
- Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies and recommend corrective actions
- Support monthly close including accruals, reconciliations, and project-level reporting
- Ensure project financials align with GAAP and internal controls and roll into broader segment reporting
Project Cost Accountant — Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of project or cost accounting experience, ideally supporting capital projects
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP/WBS strongly preferred) and project tracking environments
- Background in construction, energy, infrastructure, or industrial projects highly preferred
- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, AFE tracking, and cost controls
- Accounting degree required; CPA or public accounting background is a plus
