Controller Job Description
Controller Responsibilities:
- Financial Leadership: Direct and coordinate accounting operations for prompt and accurate financial management.
- Policy Implementation: Create and enforce accounting procedures, ensuring alignment with university standards.
- Budget Craftsmanship: Analyze fiscal needs and craft budget recommendations; monitor and reconcile expenditures.
- System Optimization: Lead ongoing assessment of financial systems, recommend solutions, and oversee implementation.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate audits to ensure financial system integrity.
- Insightful Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly financial reports, including consolidated statements.
- Financial Analysis: Provide insightful analysis of financial components, driving informed decision-making.
- Accounts Oversight: Oversee Accounts Payable functions and ensure timely processing.
- Team Productivity: Plan and distribute work assignments, fostering team productivity.
- Compliance Leadership: Lead conferences to ensure compliance and keep employees updated on standards.

Controller Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
- 10-12 years of experience; higher education exposure desirable.
- Proficiency in Banner software and GAAP financial statements.
- Expertise in consolidated statements and not-for-profit GAAP.
- Understanding of market-to-market accounting for investments.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
