Controller – CFS has teamed up with a non-profit organization centrally located in Houston to fill a high-priority and hands-on Controller position.

About the Organization and Opportunity:

• Our client is a mission-driven, growing organization that helps provide services for children and adults.
• In this Controller role, you will report directly to the CFO and oversee a team.
• This is a hands-on role that can move to some hybrid flexibility after being fully onboarded.

Overview of the Controller role:

• Directs and oversees accounting practices, fiscal record maintenance, financial report preparation, and general accounting functions.
• Supervises internal auditing, cost accounting, budgetary controls, travel, and cash management.
• Evaluates operating results, budgets, and policies to optimize costs and enhance financial performance.
• Manages chart of accounts and ensures accurate expenditure classification.
• Acts as the main liaison with public accountants, prepares reports, handles external reporting and tax compliance.
• Oversees banking relationships and government negotiations.

Preferred Qualifications for the Controller:

• BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Financial leadership experience.
• Ability to present financial information clearly and to varied audiences.
• Experience working in Non-Profits and Grant Accounting.
