Assistant Controller – 90 to 105K – Southwest Houston

The Assistant Controller located in the Houston, Texas office, directs the accounting staff and assists the Controller in all phases of accounting; manages day-to-day Accounting Department activities and responsibilities; supervises/prepares month-end journal entries and handles monthly, quarterly and annual closing procedures; produces and/or assists the Controller with production of financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards.

Other Responsiblities:

  • Supervise and train accounting staff to assure quality of work.
  • Prioritize, research and resolve extraordinary accounting issues.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and review turnover accounts for reasonableness.
  • Review project for proper revenue recognition.
  • Supervise/prepare intercompany invoices, record intercompany vouchers, and reconcile to clearing files.
  • Initiate and implement process improvements, both for Accounting Department and Company.
  • Supervise maintenance of State/Federal reporting, including Secretary of State required filings.
  • Handle international filings as required.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly management reports.
  • Supervise/review, enter, and reconcile capital assets and depreciation.
  • Prepare weekly cash flow projections.
  • Assist other departments and managers with accounting/business related issues.
  • Special projects as directed by Controller.
 
position requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 7-10 years progressive accounting experience required (A/E firm preferred).
  • Project accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to complete recurring tasks with little instruction or supervision.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Highly organized and able to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work overtime during close and at other times with little notice.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), technology and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interface with personnel at a variety of levels.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Genuine concern for accuracy, timeliness and appearance of work product.
